In October and November 2012 we drove the length of South America from Cartagena in Colombia to Ushuaia in Argentina taking in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile. We saw salt flats, glaciers and penguins and we visited Machu Picchu which lived up to expectations. Gira Andina was the fourth, and possibly the last, long distance rally to be organised by Global Rally Organisation. It was brilliantly planned entirely from a distance. We drove over 16,000 kilometres (10,000 miles) and the experience was life-changing.
